This year’s Labour Party Conference is an exciting moment for both politics and policymaking in the UK. As the first conference since Labour regained power in 2024, it will serve as an important litmus test in understanding the political direction of travel for the newly formed Government and its relationship with business and industry. The excitement this year is palpable, with high levels of registrations for the conference and many businesses attending for the first time, eager to hear the Government’s vision and further plans for the next few years.

No other sector should be more excited than the property and planning sector. In just two months in power, the Labour Government have made bold announcements around the delivery of 1.5 million new homes during this parliamentary term and the creation of New Towns. The Government clearly sees housing as a key driver to boosting the economy and the proposed changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) demonstrates their willingness to streamline the planning process. We can certainly expect to see more crucial announcements being made at Party Conference that will affect the industry.

At Kanda, we’ve been busy preparing clients for Party Conference, helping them to understand what to expect this year and why it is so crucial to start engaging with the Government early on into their first term. The Government will be looking for fresh ideas and to work with partners who can demonstrate how they’ve addressed some of the biggest challenges in the housing sector, such as innovation, homelessness and building energy efficient and sustainable homes. For businesses, conference gives them an invaluable opportunity to introduce themselves to a new slate of Ministers and politicians, building new relationships, and crucial follow ups following the Conference.

We’ve also been busy organising our own flagship events taking place on Monday 23rd September in the Secure Zone. These events will be looking at some of the big challenges affecting housing in London and the regions and will look at how we can capitalise on the momentum following a year of successful Labour Government, Mayoral and local elections to deliver on new housing projects. We’re looking forward to hearing from a range of leading political and regional stakeholders to share their insight on these matters.
