Kanda supported St William with its revised planning application for Lea Bridge Gasworks, starting in 2022 and culminating in Waltham Forest’s Planning Committee approving a resolution to grant planning permission in July 2024.

The revised application increased the height of a majority of buildings across the site, to deliver 643 homes, 35% affordable homes, a desperately-needed local health centre, a nursery, and beautiful landscaped areas connecting existing local residents to Jubilee Park.

Our challenge was to address the concerns of neighbouring residents about the land remediation required to redevelop this gasworks site. Our work included completely revising the project website content to ensure information about land remediation was as comprehensive and easy-to-understand as possible. Standard consultation methods like a public exhibition were supplemented by a door-knocking session to understand local concerns. This was followed by in-person workshops where neighbours could meet the project team and ask all of the questions they had about the land remediation.
