The new Labour Government has wasted little time in reiterating its commitment to unblocking planning and unlocking development \u2013 with high-profile interventions from Chancellor Rachel Reeves, Housing Secretary Angela Rayner and Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds on the subject having taken place since the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In practice \u2013 and despite the Government\u2019s landslide majority \u2013 some changes will be more gradual than others, especially those requiring primary legislation. A key priority for the coming weeks will be to continue to update policy where it can easily be updated and to maintain the positive \u2018mood music\u2019 \u2013 and indeed pressure \u2013 which will encourage investment and bold decision-making as the more involved reforms are worked through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An updated National Planning Policy Framework<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A key milestone to watch out for will be the publication of a draft National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) \u2013 which will take place before Parliament rises for the summer recess. Labour has already ended the effective moratorium on on-shore wind farms that had been in place since 2015, signalling its intent to drive forward new \u2018green\u2019 infrastructure projects across the country.
